Mangrove Mountain Country Fair
Sat 20 Oct 2012
The Mangrove Mountain & Districts Country Fair is on again – Saturday 20th October from 10.00 am at the corner of Wisemans Ferry and Waratah Roads, Mangrove Mountain.
Come along to see what the Mountain has to offer! There are livestock displays featuring cattle, alpacas, horses, sheep, goats, chickens and birds which all live on the Mountain. And we mustn’t forget the Fair petting farm and Guess the Pigs Weight competition! There will be talks by farmers throughout the day which will provide insight into the workings of local farms. If you have always wanted to see how a shearer works, come along and watch our own shearer in action – see how the fleece flies from the sheep.
The Mangrove Cup will run throughout the day – that’s our local piglets racing against each other with a chance to win on the winning piglets. This was a great success and highlight last year, so if you missed it once, don’t miss it again.
There are lots for the children – face painting, sand art and plaster casting, the reptile display, jumping castles, mini jeeps and our very special Country Decathlon which is a chance to test your skills and knowledge on rural challenges.
The local produce display in the Hall is truly spectacular. You will be amazed at the variety and quality of produce that is cultivated on the mountain which includes fruit, vegetables, plants and cut flowers – exotic and native. Also in the hall is a wonderful selection of arts and crafts including woodwork, photos and cooking. This year is the Inaugural Master Pav Pressure Test competition, bring along your baked Pavlova, we provide the topping and you decorate your pav within a time limit – no pressure.
That’s not all, in the mid afternoon we will hold the annual Tug-O-War and Battle of the Bands competitions with the finale being the flight of the Macaw. Something we have never attempted before but the blue and gold Macaw will be released to fly around the Fair. Hope it doesn’t fly off!
There will be music, singing and dancing for you to appreciate as you sit down and enjoy your espresso coffee with goat burger or pancake. We have loads of delicious hot foods, fruit salad and ice cream plus the famous Country Women’s’ Association tea and scone room.
The Mangrove Mountain Country Fair has been running every year since 1963 as a community fundraiser when locals needed to find funding for the bush nurse – a very valuable source of comfort for Mountain families. Although the bush nurse has long gone, this popular event has continued as fundraiser for local community groups.
