Mangrove Mountain Country Fair
Sat 19 Oct 2013
The fun-filled Mangrove Mountain & Districts Country Fair is on again – Saturday 19th October from 10.00 am at the corner of Wisemans Ferry and Waratah Roads, Mangrove Mountain.
Come along to see what the Mountain has to offer! There are livestock displays featuring cattle, alpacas, horses, sheep, goats, chickens and birds which all live on the Mountain. And we mustn’t forget the Fair Petting Farm or our famous Guess the Weight of the Farm Animal competition! But which farm animal is it going to be this year? A pig, a cow, a goat…..?? Come along and see!
The highly popular Mangrove Cup will run throughout the day – that’s our local piglets racing against each other! This is always a great success, with squeals of delight from both piglets and children as the race begins! Which pig are you going to cheer on?
You might get a chance to watch the fleece fly off the sheep’s back in our shearing demonstration, or wonder at the speed and dexterity of one of our spinning ladies, as she just uses pedal power and a beautiful spinning wheel to turn the raw fleece into workable woollen yarn.
Being our 50th Anniversary, we will be having a nostalgic historical display, showcasing the history of the Country Fair. Come and see some of the award-winning art and craft entries from past years! And wait until you see our Birthday Cake!! Pick up an attractive commemorative edition cotton Show Bag, or a collector’s Country Fair T-shirt, to help raise money for local community groups in the area.
The Mangrove Mountain & Districts Country Fair is a great kids’ day out – face painting, sand art and plaster casting, a reptile display, a jumping castle, a giant slide slide and our very special Scouting Country Decathlon - which is a chance to test your physical skills on our fun-filled course.
The local produce display in the Hall is always truly spectacular. You will be amazed at the variety and quality of both native and exotic flowers, and beautiful vegetables and fresh produce that is cultivated on the mountain. Check out our fascinating selection of arts and crafts including woodwork, paintings, and a great array of photographs from some very talented photographers in the area!
Enjoy a wide variety of terrific live entertainment – music, singing and dancing performed by professional local bands, talented adult groups as well as local school children – while you sit down and relax with an espresso coffee. Or maybe try some of our wide range of delicious hot foods- including vegetarian and gluten-free cuisine. We have loads of cold drinks, fruit salad and ice cream plus the famous Country Women’s’ Association tea and scone room…. NOT to be missed!
The Mangrove Mountain Country Fair has been running every year since 1963 as a community fundraiser when locals needed to find funding for the bush nurse – a very valuable source of comfort for Mountain families. Although the bush nurse has long gone, this popular event has continued as fundraiser for local community groups.
