Norah Head; Sat 17 - Sun 18 Aug 2013

The eleventh International Lighthouse Weekend intends to raise the profile of lighthouses, lightvessels and other navigational aids, promoting our maritime heritage.

August 17 & 18 marks the International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend. This event came into being from the Scottish Northern Lighthouses Award Weekend first held in 1994. Over the past 17 years it has grown to over 400 lighthouses in some 50 countries around the world participating in the event.

On the weekend, Westlakes Amateur Radio Club will be transmitting from Norah Head Lighthouse to other lighthouses around the world, communicating with other broadcasters at lighthouses and lightvessels around the globe with the objective of fostering international relations.

The Lighthouse Trust and Friends groups will be able to use this day to raise awareness of their work and involvement in the preservation of the history of lightkeeping. The public is welcome to come and view the broadcast, and tours of the historic Norah Head Lighthouse will be running all weekend.

Book your tour for the weekend by heading to the Lighthouse Tours section of our website, or call Central Coast Tourism for phone bookings on 02 4343 4444 or 1300 132 975 (toll free within Australia).
